RN Completion Program Curriculum

The nursing curriculum for RN students at Truman provides flexibility in scheduling, course requirements, and clinical assignments. A new and innovative nursing curriculum was developed and implemented at Truman which strengthened an already strong commmunity-based curriculum. This curriculum is also based on a nursing theory which focuses clearly on the discipline of nursing and moves away from reliance on the medical model, recognizing that clients have needs for medical and nursing care which are interrelated but different. This provides for a nursing practice situated in the community which draws upon the strengths of nursing in identifying and assisting communities to be healthy.

What does this mean for the RN returning to school? Nursing education at Truman gives you the opportunity to develop creative and innovative caring nursing practice strategies using your current knowledge and skills as the stepping stone to further insight into practice. Using your portfolio of education, skills and practice, you, along with your nursing advisor, will be able to design the nursing course mix that best meets your needs and that includes classroom as well as clinical based projects. A minimum of 21 credits in nursing will be designed as your nursing core of courses once validation of prior learning is completed.
